The Nest Nido, meaning nest, is an Italian term often used in Montessori settings in reference to programs serving infants and very young children. In our community, enrollment is offered to children between 18 months and 2 1/2 years of age. The Nest is a part-time, home-based Montessori program with three and four day enrollment options designed to support the child’s initial transition from home to school. Our indoor and outdoor prepared environments are thoughtfully designed to support the child’s budding independence and need for exploration in a safe and nurturing space led by trained and certified Montessori guide. We work in close partnership with families to support and empower parents and to ensure that the lessons introduced at school extend beyond the classroom walls for an optimal learning experience.
“The education of even a small child, therefore, does not aim at preparing him for school, but for life.” Maria Montessori
Through participation, your child will learn:
- How to separate and say goodbye while building healthy attachment with other caregivers;
- How to care for themselves, grow in independence, and refine practical life skills, such as hand-washing, eating, and toileting;
- How to be in community while practicing respect for others, themselves and their natural environment;
- How to identify, honor and regulate their emotions;
- How to express themselves through the use of sign language, verbal communication and varied artistic mediums;
- Plus, how to build skills in concentration, focus and coordination through engaging, sensory rich activities and outdoor play!
