The Newborn Parent
When a child is born much emphasis and attention is given to welcoming the child into the world. We are struck time and again by the innocence and the tenderness of this tiny developing being. Who will they be? What will they become?
We are compelled to acknowledge, however, an often overlooked, albeit important truth: When a child is born, so is a parent. And, so often, new parents ask themselves these same questions. Who am I? What kind of parent will I become?
“Growth is not merely a harmonious increase in size, but a transformation.” – Maria Montessori
Like the young child, the new parent passes through a sensitive period of growth, although parents rarely grant themselves the same level of patience, tenderness, and love as their growing child through what is typically an intense, and sometimes overwhelming journey of transformation. Keep in mind that parenting is the most important job you will ever have, yet parenting doesn’t come with a manual. So, where to begin, and how can I help? See below for current offerings.
Writing Circle for Mothers
Our Writing Circle has been designed to provide mothers with a safe and courageous space to process their roles as mothers within a supportive community of women through the medium of writing and reflection. Mothers at all stages of motherhood who are seeking the opportunity to slow down and honor their individual journey while tapping into the collective wisdom that comes from being part of an intentional community are highly encouraged to participate. Sessions occur monthly over the course of the semester.
Women join circles for many reasons, including connection, support, transformation and growth. During each session, we draw inspiration from topics generated by the group, and I offer readings and resources to guide our work. These include teachings from Dr. Montessori, as well as renowned authors and coaches including, but not limited to, Pema Chodron, Brené Brown, and Dr. Shefali Tsabary.

The Prepared Adult
Dr. Montessori spoke of the prepared adult as an essential part of the child’s prepared environment, and there is much the parent can do at home to help support their child’s development. To begin, the parent must realize that Montessori is a lifestyle, not simply a method of education. In short, it is not about doing; it is a way of being.
The journey begins with you, but, we are here to remind you that you don’t have to do it alone. Connecting and collaborating with others will help you get clear about the kind of parent you want to be and building a solid support system will assist you in creating sustainable self-care practices and becoming that parent. Whether you are expecting your first child or your third, we believe the Montessori philosophy can provide you with the tools you crave in your evolving journey as a parent.
